The Mustang GT3 will take to the track in 2024, competing in the FIA's GT3 class around the world and specifically at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans. But with racing comes restrictions, and the Mustang GTD, arriving in late 2024 or early 2025, takes the Mustang GT3 to its fullest potential — a street-legal race car that doesn't have to make concessions to any sanctioning body. Ford turned to Multimatic, the company that produced the Ford GT, to develop the Mustang GTD. The result is a carbon fiber-bodied Mustang powered by an uprated 5.2-liter supercharged V8 used in the Shelby GT500, making over 800 horsepower. The suspension is exclusive to the GTD, with a pushrod rear setup and Multimatic active dampers. The trunk now houses the pushrod suspension and gearbox cooler, meaning the golf clubs won't be coming along for the ride. Extensive aerodynamic pieces dominate the exterior, including an active rear wing, inlets for cooling the rear brakes, and a front splitter and hood vents. Ford aims to produce around 1,000 units of the Mustang GTD — expect them to sell out immediately.
